The Magic of Feeling
In LOVE & MAGIC: SPELLFYRE, magic is fueled by emotions. But not all emotions manifest the same way. There are six major emotions, and each is associated with its own set of magical spells. These are known as Affinities.
The Six Affinities
Felicis
Felicis is the affinity of happiness. Its primary uses are anywhere appearance matters: theater, politics, athletics, and the arts. Associated with light and speed, it’s also often used in transportation.
Ikaris
Ikaris is the affinity of sadness. Associated with water, cold, and time, Ikaris is used in agriculture, navigation, and chemistry. Ikaris is the most common affinity, and it's vital to day-to-day life in Austerea.
Sikranos
Sikranos is the affinity of curiosity. Associated with metal and lightning, Sikranos is used in engineering, science, and the crafting of magical runes. Despite being seen as the most intellectual of the Affinities, Sikranos also appeals to wanderers and free-spirits.
Timoros
Timoros is the affinity of fear. Associated with the inner workings of the mind, Timoros is used in espionage, commerce, and law. Timoros is the only Affinity that grants access to dream magic, but this is a forbidden skill limited to only very skilled arcanes.
Erolis
Erolis is the affinity of love. Its primary use is healing, but it can also be used in gardening, exploration, and even military support. Erolis is, of course, associated with romance, but other forms of love can be used as well, such as familial, platonic, and even abstract (like love of country).
Penthos
Penthos is the affinity of anger. It’s most commonly associated with combat and warfare, but is also used in mining, construction, and crafting. While Penthos arcanes are often stereotyped as hotheads, mastering Penthos requires tremendous discipline and control.
Find Your Place
Just like people feel all of these emotions (and more!), arcanes learn spells from all six affinities. In fact, a big part of your first year at Elderwood University will be taking classes in all six affinities and learning the basics of each.
But arcanes have a strong natural tendency toward just one affinity that comes most easily to them. What do you think your Affiinity will be?
