Into the Wilderlands
The Wilderlands is the most mysterious place in Austerea, and the most deadly. Before the Gildtower Massacre, this vast peninsula was a lush and prosperous region called Heaven’s Belt. But everything changed when Andros Dreadbane destroyed an ancient shrine, unleashing a wave of raw, unstable magic that warped everything it touched, killing thousands and unleashing a blight of monstrous Shades. Today, the Wilderlands are dreamlike and mysterious, a place where otherworldly beauty lies at every corner… and one wrong step can get you devoured.
The Wilderlands are uninhabitable for most. The raw magic here is fatally toxic to arcanes older than thirty years of age, leaving only the young to venture inside. At Elderwood University, students train to become Restorers, venturing into the Wilderlands to battle Shades, cleanse the corrupted magic, and reclaim the land to its former glory, one mile at a time.
Through Field and Forest
In your first term at Elderwood, you’ll venture into the Wilderlands closest to campus. Here’s a few places you might explore:
This field is the border where safety ends and raw magic begins. The deeper you go, the more unstable reality becomes…
The forest shifts between enchanting and nightmarish. The glowing trees and magical flowers are beautiful, but deadly Shades stalk its paths.
A glowing shoreline just off campus, where raw magic infuses the waves with an iridescent glow… and draws in a most unusual predator.
This deceptively peaceful creek has strange shimmering water where you can hear whispers in the wind. Some students have reported spotting an exceptionally rare Shade here, one that doesn’t fit any known affinity…
This cave is a labyrinth of stone, home to lurking Timors and Ikarins. Claws in the dark hunt those brave enough to enter.
Sins of the Father
All students at Elderwood are tasked with Restoring the Wilderlands, but this task is more personal for you than for anyone else. After all... it was your father who created the Wilderlands in the first place. Will you rise to the challenge and restore what he destroyed?
